China to Introduce Rules Governing Generative AI on August 18
July 14, 2023

China's Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has collaborated with multiple regulatory bodies to establish new rules governing generative Artificial Intelligence (AI). These rules encompass all content services associated with generative AI, such as text, images, audio, and video, provided to the Chinese public. The regulations mandate that generative AI providers adhere to core socialist values and prohibit any content that poses a threat to China's national security. New rules are set to come into effect on August 18. As the use of generative AI continues to gain popularity, it has sparked a significant increase in capital investment in the market. By 2023, it is estimated that investments in generative AI will surpass US$10 billion, according to MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), a major government think tank and one of leading research institutes in Taiwan.
